Your Partner in Creating Change that Lasts
Hi. I'm Erica
I’m a psychologist with a unique combination of expertise as an HCPC practitioner Forensic Psychologist and a BPS Chartered Coaching Psychologist. Together these perspectives give me a deep understanding of the conditions that lead to challenging behaviours as well as how to get the best from people and support them to change.
My PhD, completed at the University of Birmingham in 2004, evaluated a community-based rehabilitation programme for domestic violence perpetrators. I didn’t know then that I was asking the question I would spend the next two decades pursuing: what actually makes people change?
My research has since focused on intimate partner violence: its causes, its consequences, and the conditions under which it stops. I studied perpetrators and victims, adolescents and families, programmes and policies. What I found, consistently, was that the factors that allow people to change are relational, contextual, and deeply psychological. Not just what you do with people, but the quality of presence you bring.
I have written extensively on domestic abuse, sexual violence in the workplace, and offender rehabilitation (my publications are available here), and served on advisory panels for the Ministry of Justice, the Scottish Government, NHS England, and His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service.
This knowledge and experience is what I draw upon daily.
Outside my business, I’m an avid photographer and love reading, writing fiction, singing and making art. I am mum to a young adult on his way to becoming a pro golfer, and carer for my mum. I’m also a cycle breaker with my own experience of being a child carer, childhood bullying, adolescent dating violence and growing up in an emotionally abusive home.
